full moon stitches - wolf moon

(Almost) every morning I pull an oracle card to get me going. Currently I am loving the THE WILD UNKNOWN ANIMAL SPIRIT oracle deck/book/set. Today I pulled the shark, which asks us 'to be totally "ourselves," or to say what we really want.' It is a water card, and I've been consistently pulling water cards for the past four days. Just like the cups in tarot, water is about our emotions... my cards have been specific about creativity, expression and beauty and how they link to emotional well being. Along with the beginning of Aquarius-season and the AMAZING FULL BLOOD MOON SUPER MOON LUNAR ECLIPSE I feel it's time to get speaking/writing/blogging.

While I have always been a crafty gal, I didn't really get serious about making all the things until I was in my mid-thirties. ((note, I have consistently made jewelry & aromatherapy blends since my 20's))   Embroidery was where I started, and I jumped right in customizing a wooly cardigan with some Art Noveau swirls and Charles Rennie Mackintosh inspired roses. I still own that cardi, although it is so dang itchy it never gets worn.

So, about embroidery and moons. I would love to commit to memory the Native American moon names, the lore, and which month they correspond to. So I decided to stitch something each month to honor the full moon. It's quite refreshing to have a mini-project to work on once a month, and a nice way to channel the sometimes heavy energy associated with the full moon. Join me and stitch up your lunar observations or impressions, and if you feel inclined please post images on Instagram tag them so I can see them! #fullmoonstitches

For January, the Wolf Moon, I decided to use the image of a wolf. It was my first time using a pattern transfer, and I think I'm in love! So much easier than freehand drawing or trying to use a lightbox or carbon/transfer pen/etc. Anyways, the pattern was from the book Enchanted Woodland Creatures by Aimee Ray. I selected only a portion of the design, as I wanted my project to be quick and simple. To be honest, I didn't complete this in one sitting. But giving myself a few evenings to complete is fine with me! The full moon also spans a few days.
